Install CC while keeping CS6?

I'd like to try CC Photoshop but, I'm hesitating because I'm not sure if it will "fry" my installed CS6 version. Can I run both versions? Idon't want to waste time having to re-install CS6. And, for future work, I don't want to lose functionality of the plug-ins I use with CS6. I have CS5 on my Mac also.
I'm not happy with Adobe's decision to go this route. I've been a beta tesetr for CS5 & 6. I really don't see the advantage of renting software.
